Delta Airlines best quarter in a decade
The airport officials on Monday has said that the Atlanta based carrier Delta Air Lines has swing to a profit of $549 million for the second quarter of the year 2010, because of the higher fares, fuller planes, and travel demands from the businessmen and consumers, making this phase the carrier’s best in a decade.
The revenue of the largest airline of the world has increased to 17% for the quarter which is nearly $8.2 billion when compared with the previous year. The passenger revenue has increased by 19%, and there is rise of 22% in the cargo revenue. An increase in the fees of the baggage has helped to add up another $24 billion.
The policy of Delta includes raising fares and flying more people on few planes and by the end of 2010, its fleet will be smaller by 91 planes and another 20 planes in 2011.
Betsy Talton, a spokeswoman has said that “since the second quarter of 2000, it is the best performance by Delta with a pretax profit of $775 million inclusive of special items.”
The President of Delta Ed Bastian has told in a company statement that “In these early stages of the economic recovery, we are seeing strong improvements and believe there will be more revenue growth as the economy continues to stabilize.”
Once the United Airlines and the Continental Airlines complete their fusion, the Delta will slide to world’s No.2.
